Adapting the perimeter route

The edge still helps, but it no longer provides an automatic four-corner circuit.

Rules for this mode

  1. Groups of blocks occupy all four corners.
  2. Walls, blocks, and your tail can end the run.
  3. A normal red ball adds 1 point and 1 growth section.
  4. The centre remains open.

Three useful decisions

  1. Mark the final safe cell before each obstacle.
  2. Use inward U-turns instead of forcing the corner.
  3. Keep the centre available as a shared escape route.

Opening plan

Learn the last safe cell before each blocked corner. Approach with an inward lane already available.

Common mistake

Following the usual outer loop until the obstacle arrives one turn earlier than expected.

Use three runs for one change

Use the first run to learn the board. Repeat the same opening on the second run. On the third, change only the turn that caused the previous loss. This makes it easier to tell whether the problem was the route or the input.
